Parts of the East Suffolk coast are eroding at an unprecedented rate.
Nereus, otherwise known as the Old Man of the Sea, was the Greek mythological father of fifty Nereides. These sea goddesses were kind and beautiful protectors of those in, and on, the sea.
In an ironic and tragic twist of fate, my Nereides are clothed in debris – geotextiles and wire that have fallen onto the beach as Pakefield’s cliff erodes. Every Nereid in this series is on a hand embroidered photograph of Pakefield beach; adorned with beach debris and smashed sea glass.
